COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course’s object is the research on the procedure of architectural design and the investigation of its origins and its limits. The course will attempt to connect architectural design, as a deep, creative procedure with broad fields of innovation, study of structures (typological, formal, technological, ecological, etc.), documentation, as well as other scientific and creative fields, using advanced methodologies for design, spatial representation and fabrication.

This year’s topic is titled ‘ARCADIA II’ and it connects concepts such as locality, the cultural expression of pastoralism with advanced design and visionary utopias. Thus, it raises architectural design as a prominent bearer of new meanings and encoded cultural load. ‘ARCADIA II’ is considered regional and yet highly universal, trivial and yet experimental.

Αντικείμενο του μαθήματος είναι η διερεύνηση της διαδικασίας του αρχιτεκτονικού σχεδιασμού, των αφετηριών αλλά και των ορίων του. Επιχειρείται η σύνδεση του αρχιτεκτονικού σχεδιασμού, ως βαθιάς, συνθετικής διαδικασίας με τον ευρύ χώρο της καινοτομίας, τη μελέτη δομών (τυπολογικών, μορφολογικών, τεχνολογικών, οικολογικών και άλλων), την καταγραφή, αλλά και άλλων επιστημονικών και δημιουργικών πεδίων, με την εφαρμογή προηγμένων μεθοδολογιών σχεδιασμού, χωρικής αναπαράστασης και κατασκευής.

Το φετινό θέμα έχει τίτλο ‘ARCADIA ΙΙ’ και επιχειρεί να συνδέσει έννοιες όπως η τοπικότητα, η πολιτισμική έκφραση της ‘παραδοσιακής αγνότητας’ (pastoralism) με τον προηγμένο σχεδιασμό και τις οραματικές σχεδιαστικές ουτοπίες. Ανάγει, αναπόφευκτα, τον αρχιτεκτονικό σχεδιασμό σε εξέχοντα φορέα νέων μηνυμάτων και κωδικοποιημένου πολιτισμικού φορτίου. Η ‘ARCADIA ΙΙ’ θεωρείται τοπική και παρόλα αυτά παγκόσμια, τετριμμένη και ταυτόχρονα πειραματική.
